French-Canadian Young Leaders Program on Defense and Diplomatic issues

Promo 2026

For the third edition of the France–Canada Future Leaders Program on Defence and Diplomacy Issues, a new cohort of young professionals from academia, public institutions, the armed forces, and the private sector will come together to deepen discussions on the evolving dynamics of transatlantic security. This edition is distinguished by a nearly trilateral format, bringing together primarily participants from France, Canada, and Germany, following the partnerships that have been established - particularly with the German Institute for Defence and Strategic Studies (GIDS) - as well as the applications received. The program also takes place in a symbolic context, as 2026 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and the Federal Republic of Germany.

The 2026 cohort will notably address strategic issues related to the Arctic, the security of critical infrastructures, challenges associated with strategic resources and supply chains, as well as the prospects for transatlantic cooperation in a context of growing geopolitical rivalry. This edition will also benefit from the guidance of recognized experts, including Dr. Christian Richter (GIDS) as the program’s mentor, as well as the contribution of Chantal Lavallée, Fellow of the Forum de Défense et de Stratégie.
